Hi

I got a problem with my Abit KD-7(not RAID), 768MB, 2100+.

I can't seem to get more than one drive per IDE-channel to work. I got my
60GB set at primary master and my 15.2GB set at secondary master. When I try
to set my CD-burner to slave on either channel the harddrive on the same
channel can't be found by BIOS. I've tried to set them to cable select, but
only to get the same result.

If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful!

Thanks!

You cannot have 2 master drives on the same IDE channel. Neither can
you have 2 slave drives on the same IDE channel. On an IDE channel
(port), only 2 devices are supported so one must be master and the other
is slave.

It sounds like you are attaching one hard drive per IDE channel; that
is, you have one hard drive on one IDE port and the other hard drive on
the other IDE port. In that case, set both hard drives as master (there
is no primary master and secondary master; it's master and slave).
Leave the CD drive as slave on whichever IDE port you attach it to.

Note that some hard drives require an auto or standalone setting if they
are the only drive on that IDE channel. That is, you do not for it as
master but instead let it default. The jumper is then put on 1 pin or
across the gnd pins simply to store it for later use, if needed.

It's not a question of master/slave settings. I've tried all different
master/slave configuration on both ports. To clarify; My 60gb is master on
the IDE1 port and my 15gb is master on IDE2. If I connect the cd to IDE1 and
set it to slave, BIOS finds the cd as slave but no hdd as master. Same thing
for IDE2...

Make sure the master is on the end of the cable and the slave is in the
middle. It should not make any differance but it did in my computer.

Did you ever set up to have all HDs in the same IDE channel and all the
CD drives in another channel?
That what I did to my system since from day one but the downside is that
I cannot do CD to CD copy "on the fly".

Yours is the preferred setup, but you will need DMA enabled on both CD drives to make a CD to CD copy.

I usually put all optical drives on the same cable(s) too, it just
makes cable routing a whole lot easier. Sometimes the source (reader)
drive just can't read the disc fast enough.

That solved the problem. My cd won't work with my hdds on the same channel,
just like you said! Thanks to everyone for taking time to help me!
