I purchased a Linksys home wireless networking kit with a
wireless card for my laptop. I have installed everything
according to the instructions, and I cannot seem to
view/access files on either computer from the other one.
I have spent three days on this project which was
supposed to take only minutes. I am sure it is just a
configuration problem, but I am frustrated and clueless
at this point as to what to try next. I have searched
the web and read all the how to pages I can find. A call
to Linksys was useless..... the told me to look on the
web. I have uninstalled and re installed all of the
equipment multiple times with no success. I can access
the internet from the notebook so I know that the
wireless card is talking to the AP router, but when I
click on "view workgroup computers", the laptop shows
itself, and the desktop shows nothing.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Sorry for the long post.

Difficult to troubleshoot from afar. One of the simplest cause for what you
describe is XP's built-in 'Internet Connection Firewall'. You need to
disable that to establish a workgroup. But you might have done that
already...
If not, go to 'Network Connections', right-click on the 'Local Area
Connection' (or whatever you called it) icon and disable the firewall via
the advanced tab found under 'Properties'. Reboot both machines and hope for
the best... :-)
Hope this helps. Good luck.
