Hi,

I have bought a Chieftec CEB 35i enclosure and put a 3.5" 160 gig HDD
in it. It works fine with my labtop, but my desktop loses the
connection (USB 2.0) whenever I try to copy files to it. Both
computers are running Windows Vista Premium so I dont understand. The
only difference I can see is the USB cable on the desktop is longer
and that there are more cables on it that might possibly interfere
with data transfer.

Any suggestions here?

If you're using the desktop's rear USB connectors, that is, the ones
attached directly to the motherboard, then I'd suspect the external
drive enclosure having a USB interface chip that isn't completely
compatible with some USB ports, and maybe a new driver program will
help (even though Vista has its own driver). But with front USB
ports, maybe the small circuit board that holds its connectors was
badly designed (bad grounding, bypass capacitors left out), something
I've heard about for certain cases and my old Soyo front USB port kit.
