Problems with DV-AVI capture

Have Windows XP, MM2, ATI RADEON IGP 345M and have problems capture video to PC from Sony DV Handycam TRV9E using i-Link and 1394. Can any person provide some input here? Need assistance?
 
I am up three levels in Microsoft tech support since mid December. The
problem may involve capturing with Movie Maker and/playing files captured
with premiere in Media Player 9. Adobe Audition (Cool Edit) is also
affected.

Microsoft has been able to duplicate the playback problem of both captured
file types. Yesterday they suggested I do a "Setup Repair" which involves
the equivalent of a full installation + reinstallation of all updates. Since
I did this in late December, I suggested that since they had duplicated the
problem, that they confirm that such a procedure had worked on their
machine. I have not heard back since.

PS - Sony TRV 315 1st gen. D8, Pyro 1394, Intel 2.4 P4, 2GB, 5 HD's, XP all
