Problems with creating a chart

Okay this may sound really stupid, but I got bored and made a list of all my dvd's (there's quite a few) and put them in specific genres. Then I wanted to make a chart comparing the genres, in other words how many horror movies I had compared to Comedy. A couple years ago I could've done this but it's been while. Now it's the principle of the thing on why I want this chart done so badly. I figure I need to get the program to count each entry under each heading in order to come up with some kind of numerical value in order to chart it. I have no clue how to accomplish this. Any help any of you could give would be highly appreciated.
