removing all headers and footers

I am still having trouble with files sent by my publisher to revise which I
am working on in MS Word 2003.

My autocorrect items work in some paragraphs in the files, but not in
others. The paragraphs with problems seem to have the same styles as the ones
that do not have problems, like this: CHAP_BM+Times

but some paragraphs allow autocorrect and some do not.

I am also still not permitted to insert endnotes in any of these paragraphs.
When I try to insert endnotes, I get this Visual Basic error message, and/or
it just crashes Word:

"MsgBox "Insertion Point (IP) can not be in a frame or textbox" & vbCrLf _
& "when inserting a footnote." & vbCrLf & vbCrLf _
& "Please place the IP in the text of the document where you " &
vbCrLf _
& "want to insert the note reference mark and try again.",
vbInformation, "Footnote Wizard"
End

Are you attempting to insert a note in a frame or text box?

Hi, I am not sure what you mean by a frame or a text book? All the
paragraphs in these files from the Prenticc Hall publisher are supposed to be
converted into Word 2003/2007 by a company they hire, but they are causing me
all these headaches. Each paragraph has a style with names like these:
CHAP_BM_FIRST + TIMES OR CHAP_BM+ TIMES. Do those signal they are frames, or
styles that prevent autocorrect or endnote insertions? Any way to change
that? thanks.

Those names suggests that direct formatting has been applied to custom
styles (and "Keep track of formatting" is enabled); that is, they are
"formatting" rather than actual styles. But the error message you are
getting refers to inserting a footnote into a frame or text box. If the
insertion point is not in a frame or text box, then the message is bogus.

I would suggest that you take this matter up with Prentice Hall, telling
them that the files you are receiving are unusable.

I have contacted PH editors several times, here is what they say about the
extraction company they hire to prepare files for authors' revisions:

"Hi Joe,

I'm sorry to report that our extraction company cannot figure it out,
either. They assure me they've tried everything, but cannot seem to
replicate the problems you're experiencing. I'm sorry I couldn't be of
greater help. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do.

Best,
Alyssa

We've just heard back from the company that does the extractions.
They're unable to replicate the problems you're having: they've inserted
footnotes/endnotes and that works flawlessly on their end. They wonder
if it could possibly be that your version of Word is out of sync with
the version they've used? I'm sorry this is not more helpful. Please
let me know if there is anything I can do.

Kind regards,
Alyssa

Can you send me a sample of one of the misbehaving files?
