Hi
I was stupid enough to buy this chip to upgrade my computer. Now after 3
motherboards I have had only partial success. This is like the PC deferred
success (utter ****ing miserable failure). So far I have had one successful
boot. I installed windows and installed the MB drivers but have not been
able to get another successful boot.
I looked up the chip model number on the AMD site and there were no matches.
The model number ends in CG. According to AMD there is no such chip. It is
so up to date that no motherboard works with it without a bios update and
even AMD has never heard of it.
This is simply not good enough and I would advise anyone thinking of buying
AMD to think Intel instead,

Just what chip are you talking about and from whom did you buy it.
You're not giving enough details.

Because you seem unable to upgrade a computer or properly troubleshoot
a problem you advise everybody else to purchase overpriced, hot
running, under achieving processors? Really?

No thought given to the possibillity that you may have bought a duff
chip? Feces occurs. Or that you may have blown it through improper
handling? Or that you may have some other component, say a flaky power
supply or bad ram that might be your problem? Or may be you've bought
an illegally remarked processor?

Hi
I can assure you that I quite experienced in building computers and this is
the only time I have had so much trouble.
Since my post on my laptop I have managed to get another reboot on the
rebuilt desktop. I changed the memory stick and the power supply.
I hope that I will be able to make it run stable but I think I will have to
buy new memory. It seems to be very picky about what it will run with. By
the time I have finished with this debacle I would have been better off
buying a new computer.

Why don't you wise up before posting trash.

It's obvious you don't know what you're doing. Read 2nd line in sig. Still
need help, provide the info.

Hi
This is not trash but a very real problem with the compatibility of the
latest AMD CPU's.
If you don't have anything constructive to say then shut the **** up.
Paul

Again you make a statement that has no basis in reality.

There are *NO COMPATIBILITY ISSUES* with the latest AMD CPUs. FWIW, the CG
is one of the original variants, stepping 1, so you probably got ripped off
by whomever you bought it from. There was a rash of fake chips of that
version made in China, and they were very badly made. You apparently have
one of these chips. I build at least a dozen rigs a week based on every
conceivable combination of AMD procs and mobos, and I have yet to have
anything even remotely like what you describe. Sounds like flakey RAM as
well.

Since you fail to see what others have clearly pointed out, and you will not
listen to any advice given to you, perhaps it is *YOU* who should shut up.

Hi
On the contrary. Your post is the only piece of real advice I have received
based on real knowledge of the issue. The processor came in the original
packaging from a reputable retailer. If CG denotes an original variant then
it cannot be a 3200+ as it says on the chip and box. I will take this up
with the retailer.
Cheers

You have replied to me twice. Once quite rudely. If that's what you
meant, by all means you will recieve no more help from me.

Hi Bill
My apologies.I was replying to another poster who accused me of posting
trash.

Hi
Information is now (since Tuesday!) available on the chip I have purchased.
It would appear that this chip uses E4 stepping. The Elite Motherboard I am
using needs a Bios adjustment to use this chip.
This would apply to nearly every MB on the market!
As I said in my original post, this is just not good enough.
How am I supposed to flash the bios if it won't even boot?
I have boot up at the moment but it is not in any sense stable.
I might as well attempt to flash the bios as I have no other alternative.
Thank for your help

May I suggest you be careful how you edit your replies. Top posting
only adds to the confusion.

It is not AMDs fault you bought a board with a down level bios. They
have no control over motherboard manufacturers as to when they build a
board with the correct bios. Secondly, how is AMD responsible for down
level bios on motherboards that were shipped before the E4 stepping was
introduced? Sounds like you've got hold of old stock re: the
motherboards. BTW, you can run into the same problems with Intel.
How am I supposed to flash the bios if it won't even boot?

I'd go back to whoever sold me the motherboard and have them upgrade
the bios if I'd bought the motherboard and cpu from the same dealer.

Or buy a the cheapest processor that does work and use it to uggrade
the bios then swap the in newer processor. Hang on to the cheap
processor for when this situation pops up again.
I have boot up at the moment but it is not in any sense stable.
I might as well attempt to flash the bios as I have no other alternative.

It's worth a shot. I'd suggest using the Dos/floppy method if
possible.
Thank for your help
Paul

Gosh, don't trash amd chips in an amd forum. It's too much of a shock.

To be realistic, if amd chips all won't boot through 3 motherboards they'd
be out of business. There must be something to them, really.

Hi
I have finally got it up and running with a bios update. The system seems to
be very picky about which ram it will work with. I have it running best on
two bog standard generic sticks. I think I will buy some decnt memory today
and hope for the best.
Cheers

Best to get a matched set for dual-channel.

Well, I build about 3 - 4 AMD systems a mth for over a year. & have had
not one problem. The cpu's I use are Xp/64/Sempron,
I only use Gigabyte MB, Samsung HD, Samsung DVD/RW & Cheap ram.
I keep the cost down to sell cheap.

Have had not one back, & all my customers love them....
