Hello,

i´ve a problem with AD. I´ve installed win xp pro on a
notebook and added it into our domain. i have all right´s
(internet, exchange, mapped drives...), which are deposit
in the AD users and computers. But the notebook doesn´t
appear in the networkplaces and you can´t search for it.

We have some network-based installation routines
(autoupdate McAffee,.....) which doesen´t work with this
notebook caused by the problem before.

Thanks

A few more details, if you would ...

1 - Added to domain - how was this done?

2 - Does the notebook appear in a container in AD Users and Computers?

3 - What are the notebook's IP address settings? Are they pointing toward
AD servers?

As a first cut, check the n/w configuration of the XP client.
ipconfig /all
ping the default gateway
ping the DNS server
ping the DC by IP addr
ping DC by FQDN (i.e. dc-name.domain.com)

from another machine...
ping the client by IP and FQDN
try connect to share on client, i.e. start->run->\\client_name\ipc$

check the event logs on the client machine.

ad 1) local admin:

my computer->network identification-> Change -> ad to
Domain, this was successful done "Welcome in
Domain ...", then restart. Log on as domain user.

ad 2) yes. it appears there with an computer account.

ad 3) IP over DHCP, auto DNS - Server.

There is no special Alert in the event logs.

all pings from my client and from other client were done
successsfully; also the share !!!!

Other ideas ???

try running "netdiag" on the client computer to check if there's any visible
error reported.
can you connect to a file share using \\servername\sharename from the client
to the server and vice versa?
