Hi,

A plea for help on a local site describes the following problem with Win2k:

" it is a combined dvd/cd rom drive - when a disk is inserted it appears
to load then stops - no message comes upon screen. However, on clicking
the devices icon, there is an exclmation mark nex to the driver details
- in the device general tab it says "a driver for this device was not
required and has been disabled (code 32)"

Also the D drive shortcut icon does not appear in my computer but it
is in the device list. I have had several pieces of advice, including
trying to download te up to date driver, but nothing has worked . Any
help would be gratefully received as the computer works fine otherwise"

Can any kind person make any suggestions as to what it may be and how to
fix it? My first thought was that the combined drive may be a writer and
that the problems may be with the writer drivers/packet driver.

Did it work before (with Win2k)? Check first whether your Bios
recognises this drive properly? If your Bios can't see it then neither
will Win2k, which should recognise all CD and DVD drives and provides
its own set of drivers. No additional ones should be necessary. Under
Device manager/CD/DVD drives, you should see the full name and
manufacturer of your drive. An exclamation by the drive means it is not
installed/recognised by Win2k.
