Sandy

I have set Windows Automatic Updates to 'automatically
download the updates and install them on schedule' but
nothing seems to be happening. Have been checking for a
couple of weeks now but no joy. Have tried to download
manually too but my dial-up connection drops almost every
time before completion. Have installed a download
manager but this doesn't seem to work with these
updates. Have completely run out of ideas now. Can
anyone help please? Mant thanks. Sandy.

what are you running? background stuff, ram available,
etc. might just be bad dial up. no offense, we've all
been there. hopefully you can get to cable or dsl
sometime. also, if you know someone with a faster modem,
get them to download things like sp1 etc. and install it
while your watching TV.

Hi Sandy,

Uninstall the download manager for now, they often interfere with proper
operation of the update site. Then disable the AutoUpdate routine. Visit the
update site and try downloading just one update manually (doesn't matter
which one). Is it successful?

If not, locate the WindowsUpdate.log file under \Windows or \Winnt. Open it
and scroll to the bottom. Look at the error codes and compare them against
this site:

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/

Or post back here with the details for further assistance.
