Problems: Web Page link to Windows Update

Designing a local web site that I want to install on a client's local hard drive. Basically providing push button support for various features.

Running in frames (if that makes any difference)

I've added a link for windows update and office update (to run in the existing window)

Office update works fine - when I click on the button, I am directed to the office update page, and the system scan begins automatically.

With windows update, I'm having a problem.

1) Windows update works fine when I click on it from the toolbar link in IE.

2) The windows update page loads properly when I'm testing in the preview mode.

3) When I go live - and click on the link in my FrontPage web site - the basic page info loads - but the process aborts when trying to run the active-x portion of the page. So something is different between running in preview with the FrontPage application open and merely running the web page as a stand alone application.

4) HOWEVER, if i change the button behavior to open a new window, rather than use the existing framed window in my FrontPage project - it loads and runs windows update properly.

So it would appear that something is preventing it from running when the web page framed window. I don't think it is a security setting per se.

Is there something that would need to be changed in my FrontPage setting to allow active-x it to run in the current frame, rather than open a new window?

Hope this makes sense.

Appreciate any thoughts - I'm a FrontPage newbie...

Thanks -

Then it appears that MS has coded the page so that it doesn't run in a frameset, and you can not
change this.

Do you have active x running on your system (i.e. not being blocked by
firewall, antivirus etc).

Yes, I have Active-X running, and I assume there are no problems with my firewall and security settings because -

I have no problem with windows update when I start it up from the toolbar in IE
(nor do I when in preview mode in FrontPage). Just fails when running from my project outside of FrontPage...

Suggest you post to the IE and/or Windows newsgroup as this is not a FP related issue.
