Problems viewing MHT files

We got a number of MHT files on our intranet, and in the last month or so,
there's been a few people that couldn't view these pages at all. They would
simply get a "page cannot be displayed" message. I solved that quickly by
re-registering inetcomm.dll.

However, a couple of these users can not view the images on these pages.
They are standard jpgs embedded in the document. I just can't figure out why
most people can get view these images fine, while it's not working for just a
couple of others. I'm thinking perhaps a mime type problem, or perhaps some
other dll that isn't properly registered. If anyone have any ideas, I'd love
to hear about it...

Hi LMHansen :-)

Try the following and see if it helps:

First - Try clearing the IE cache. I.E./Tools/Options/General/Delete files
(and
delete offline content.)

Sometimes the firewall can block images:

Zone Alarm Pro can block Images in IE

1. Go into IE>Tools>Internet Options>Security>Custom level>reset custom
level to Medium or Low
2. Go into IE>Tools>Internet Options>Privacy>set the slider to Medium or Low
3. Go to this site and read on adjusting the Privacy settings in ZA. It will
explain how to customize on a per site basis.

Kerio Personal Firewall and any other anti-advertisement software you have
on your system will also do this.

Click on the Advanced tab.
Scroll down to the Multimedia section and make sure the box “Show Picturesâ€
is
ticked.

and...

Go to Internet Options>Advanced Tab
Show Pictures - check option if
unchecked to display pictures all the time.

also..

Display problems with IE can be caused by video drivers that need
updating. Go to the web site of your video card manufacturer and get the
latest drivers for your card. As a work around, try turning down your
hardware acceleration, color depth, and/or screen resolution. If these
work, then new drivers are in order.

Other causes are scripting engines that need reinstalled or updated:

Or the Java VM:

Jan,

Thanks for the very thorough reply. I'll be sure to sort through it once I
get my hands on one of the machines with the problem. Everyone is so busy,
they don't want to give up their machines to get things fixed.

I'm having the same problem here - I've tried emptying the cache etc as
suggested by Jan but the problem is still there.

I've noticed that mht files that browse OK when hosted locally (i.e.
http://localhost/...) do not work when I host them on another machine. I've
changed the security settings in IE so that the host machines are trusted and
set the security level to low but it's still not working.

IE version is 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519 with updates SP2; 3283;

I recall installing a fix (3283?) to correct a potential security problem
with images and am wondering if that could be causing the problem.

Has anyone get any other suggestions to fix this?

Gavin
