Problems using .pst files

I am using Outlook 2002 SP-1. I used the export function to a .pst file for about 18 months before I started having problems with Outlook hanging up so badly I have to pull all power from the PC to get it to shut down. I have also tried just backing up the .pst file to a CD - again system hangs up. I am able to backup the .pst file to another folder on my hard drive.

I can use the CD for all other functions (play music, backup files, play DVD) but as soon as I try to do anything that uses a .pst file and the CD the system hangs up. Any ideas? Thanks

Is Outlook closed when you try to burn the pst-file?

Yes - Outlook is closed when I try to copy the .pst file directly to the CD. This is quite frustrating. Both using export and the direct copy of a .pst file seems to be going along fine and then the process just "hangs up". The file in either case is not closed

Is there an option of the .pst file that may need to be changed before I try to copy it? Thanks
