After upgrading from 98 to XP Home I am unable to burn
audio CD's. I also am unable to save to my E drive.
It is as if XP is treating my CD burner as if it were
a CD ROM only.
Thanks,
Tim

There is a possibilty that some of the drivers that you use with your
CD-burning software are not compatible with Windows XP. This is the case
with Roxio EasyCD Creator drivers. Try the following and tell me if it
helps your situation:

It seems that there were values in the registry that were causing the
problem. The problem was resolved by going to the Regedit tool and going to
the following folder:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{4D36E965-E325-11C
E-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Once there, right-click on and delete the "UpperFilters" and "LowerFitlers"
values.

I hope this helps anyone else who has problems with their CD-RW/DVD drives.

Sincerely,

Eric Scofield

Thanks Eric, but this didn't work for me, though mine
might be a different situation. I built from scratch,
loaded the OS, did the driver updates and everything
worked, for close to a year, then for no reason
whatsoever, the OS no longer reads the disks inside the
burner for writing (but it will pull data from them). The
error I get is "Please insert media: there is no media in
the drive" or something to that effect. Strangest thing.
But the drive is good (works in other computers), the cds
are good (use them in my other box to write) and I can
read from it, but not burn. I uninstalled it and
reinstalled with drivers, updates and the whole nine, but
wiht no luck....please help!

Hi,

Is your CD/RW appeared in the device manager as CD/RW?
Have you enabled the IMAPI burning service?
What burning -rom you are using?
Pls post back in details so that someone may help you.

Peter

It is recognized as a CD-RW drive, but i do not know how
to enable IMAPI burning service.
I use Nero burning rom, but the driver came from a roxio
disk, this may be the problem, because i have a friend
who has the same one and it has done the same thing as
mine
