My PC/system 3 yrs old: Windows XP Home Ed; Intel pentium 4, 1.6 g.hz (or
meghz?); 256 mb RAM; IE 6.0.
Experiencing really slow uploads - say 5-10 minutes per picture - JPG files
...less than 1MB. Seems to be the same for various service providers - eg
Walmart etc. Advice I'm getting various advice e.g. "uninstall Windows and
re-install".. Also IE times out occassionally during the upload. Any ideas??
Please and thx.

Are you on a dialup connection? Might be
worth a try to resize the image files. Also
might be worth a try to do some system
maintenance.

Running Disk Cleanup, Error Checking and
Defrag on a regular schedule is a good idea.

(check the two boxes..."Automatically fix file
system errors" and "Scan for and attempt
recovery of bad sectors") the utility will run
the next time you restart your computer.
(run error checking repeatedly until it finds
no errors)

Thanks John. I should have mentioned that I have high speed cable internet
service - although I understand the 'upload' speed is far slower than
'download' speed - which does seem very good. I had earlier tried all of the
suggestions that you made - alas to no avail. Perhaps that's why I was told
that the windows Uninstall the Reinstall route may be necessary, although
that sounds horrible. Maybe I'll just edit pics, copy to a CD then take in
for printing?

I don't know about reinstalling Windows but I would
suspect that you may have some malware on your
system that could be causing this issue.

Do you run any of the following free programs?

Spybot,
AdAware,
A-Squared,
Microsoft AntiSpyware

I'm running AdAware and the MS antispyware beta freebie. I used to have
spybot also but I was advised that running all three could cause conflicts so
I ditched the Spybot. Also using a firewall and antivirus software provided
by local cable co. - internet provider. I used to have Norton antivirus but
canned it when the free cable antivirus was provided. I've heard that Norton
maybe better so maybe I'll uninstall the cable thingy and go back to Norton.

I have not been able to upload files to any photofinsher either. Were you
ever able to resolve your problem?

I also have not been able to register several software packages (Norton,
Symantec, for example). I may have something set wrong in my security
profile, but I have spent many hours trying to resolve this problem with no
success.

I have a DSL connection and use Norton Antivirus. The only "firewall" have
is Norton's Internet Worm Protection.

I would also welcome any help from others.
