I have recently had problems starting up my computer and
getting to Windows 2000. The error message reads Explorer
exe. Has generated errors and will close by Windows. You
will need to restart. Windows XP an error log created.

I cannot start in safe mode or safe mode command. I am
unable to use the last configuration.

I do not want to replace the Windows 2000 because I have
files that I cannot replace. It has been suggested to me
to take the hard drive out placing it another computer
copy the files reconfigure my old hard drive and place it
back into my computer is their a easy way. Any
suggestions?

Thanks chas

Hi Chas,

You could put down a parallel installation (install into a different
directory other then Windows / WINNT, leaving the file system intact). You
would have two installations on the machine then, your failed production
installation and a new installation. You could then use this new
installation to troubleshoot your old installation, or use the parallel to
access the files that cannot be replaced.
