I have a brand new Sony laptop, model PCG-GRZ630, which
came installed with XP Home Edition. I immediately
instaled a Linksys WPC54G Wireless G card and it worked
beautifully - absolutely couldn't have gone more
smoothly. As soon as I would start up the computer it
would recognize the card and I would have instant
internet access. Yesterday I upgraded to XP Pro. Right
away, I had to spend 30 minutes figuring out how to get
it to recognize the card. Now it will, but it takes 3-4
minutes after the computer starts up. During that time I
cannot even open the "Network Settings" menu - it just
sits there. I want the old speed back!!! Can I get it
back without reinstalling XP Home? HELP!!!

Long shot: if your XP Home had service pack 1 applied, and you haven't
applied it to the upgrade, that has caused problems with networking. Try
SP1 if you haven't already.

Sean,

next thing I'd try is to uninstall the card driver and reinstall
it. If that's not enough, remove all networking components, then
add them again.

Also disable the IEEE 802.1X authentication, unless you really
need it.

Please have a look at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxNetwork.htm for
some more details.
