I updated my Office XP Pro with Service Pack 3 yesterday.
Since then I've had problems with Outlook. Everytime I try
to send or occasionaly open an email I get a message
saying 'A program is trying to access e-mail adresses you
have stored in Outlook. Do you want to allow this? If this
is unexpected this may be a virus and you should
choose "No".' Outlook is using Word to create mail
messages.

Also takes ages to open an attachment. If I go to Task
Manager however it momentarily shows as 'Not Responding'
before opening up - at the moment this is what I'm having
to do to get attachments to open. :o(

Outlook is now also prone to hanging. I have had to reboot
3 times today as I could not get Outlook to respond or to
close down.

Has anyone else had any problems with SP3? Any ideas how
to fix it? Fortunately I use my PC to test all patches
before rolling them out.....

Thanks

Dave

Yes, are having some of the same problems immediately after installing
Office XP Pro SP3, particularly the "access to e-mail addresses" in Outlook
2002. Very annoying

All to do with your anti-virus,anti-spam software - you
probably have Norton Internet Security jusging by many
other posts on here.

Try this site. He has an add-on that will bypass the "A program is trying
to access e-mail addresses you have stored in Outlook. Do you want to allow
this? message.

Outlook 2002 SP3 adds additional properties to the list of those that are
affected by the security features. As a result, one of your add-ins needs
updated to the latest version - antispam add-ins are a common cause
although others are affected by the changes as well. Many add-ins were
updated following the release of Outlook 2003 and should work with SP3, if
not you'll need to contact the vendor for a newer version.

http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ol2002sp3.htm#problems has a list of
applications known to trigger the warning.

To learn how to program around the new properties (which is needed for the
macros to work with OL2003 too) see http://www.outlookcode.com/d/sec.htm

No we are running Network Associates Anti-virus. No anti-
Spam software on this PC.

I have also just discovered that Outlook crashes every
time I try to add an attachment - This seems to cause the
whole system to become unstable and requires a reboot - I
can't shut down Outlook once this happens and various
applications will then freeze up, occasionally it has
caused the Start button not to work and has required a
hard switch-off. >:o( Can't Ctrl-Alt-Del either!!

I tried removing Word as my email editor but although that
stops the original problem I now get issues with Active-X
controls!? and the text does not appear correctly within
the email.

I checked the list of problem applications and I'm not
running any of them except Word.

There does not seem any easy way to put this back and as
my system now seems so unstable I think it is rebuild
time. :o(

Don't think I'll be installing SP3 this time though.....

Oh well at least it's the weekend.....

Cheers!

If you have Adobe Acrobat integrated into Word, it can cause this.
