Hi,
I am trying to get an SMC "EZ Connect" USB 802.11b adapter working with
Windows XP.
I've tested this adapter awhile ago on another machine with XP, and it
worked fine, and I just tested it this evening on a different machine
with Win2K, and that worked fine also. In other words, the adapter
itself seems to be working fine.
It's just on one particular machine with Windows XP Home that I can't
seem to get it working.
The symptoms are that the network icon appears on the systray with a red
"X", and when I click on it the "Wireless Network" window is empty
(i.e., no wireless networks). When I look on the Network connections,
it says "Unavailable".
I've tried installing both the driver from the CD that came with the
adapter, and also the drivers that come with XP. Both give similar
results ("Unavailable").
I've also tried disabling WEP on my Access Point (an Orinoco RG-1000),
and still no joy.
I've currently got this machine hooked up to an Ethernet connection, and
am updating to SP1, and am hopeful that this will fix the problem, but I
was wondering if anyone might have some suggestions as to what might be
wrong?
I've found one post on Google.com that seemed to describe the same
problem, but there was no resolution, so that wasn't much help.
Thanks in advance!!!
