Problems Saving!!

I have Windows XP Home Edition and am using Windows Movie Maker version 5.1
with SP3. I have had no problems saving photo files with music files into a
..wmv video, however, when I try to save photo files, music files and .wmv
video files, I get an error to check if the files have been moved or if there
is enough space in the directory where I'm saving the file. The .wmv movie
files I'm trying to save are only 30mb each and I'm trying to save three for
a total of 90mb. The muisc file is only 1mb and the images total under 1mb.
So, there is plenty of space on my computer for it to save the file, and, all
the files are exactly where they were at the time of trying to save as they
were when I imported them. I have tried increasing virtual memory and trying
to save in .avi format and nothing works. I cannot understand why I cannot
save .wmv files into a new video file. I have searched until I am blue in the
face for a fix to this and have found none. Can anybody help me here before I
go grey and rip out all of my hair?

I would suspect you may have some incompatible
or possibly corrupted source files.

Maybe the following articles will offer some ideas:

Hi John,

I should clarify: I used a still photo camera which records videos as .mov
files. I converted the .mov files at media-convert.com to .wmv files. After
converting them they played perfectly. Then I imported them into Movie Maker,
whereas the problems started. First, I would play the movie timeline and the
videos would pause on their own, so I'd click the play button again and
they'd finish playing. I'd re-play the timeline and it would run without
pausing. Then I'd add my images, which all open fine outside of Movie Maker
and within Movie Maker. Then, I'd add the music file, which also opened fine
outside of Movie Maker and within Movie Maker. After putting them all
together I would attempt to save the file as a High-Quality Large File. After
ithe save would reach about 50% it would give me the message that Movie Maker
could not save the file because either files were missing (which they
weren't...no X's), or the saving location was not available (which it
was...it was first my desktop, then I tried my video folder...and neither are
missing), or there was not enough space available in the save location (my
computer has 30gb of free space). My memory is 512mb. I have no other
problems with any other programs but Movie Maker. I also had no other
programs running in the background except my McAfee which always runs in the
background, and, as well, uses very little virtual memory to run in the
background. I read all three articles you posted and found no solutions so
hopefully my clarification here will help me to get a solution from someone.
It's just frustrating as heck to shoot a whole day of short video clips and
not be able to edit and save them.

Also, I downloaded the RADTools video converter that you suggested on another
post, but before I install it, I just wanted to ask you if you know if it
contains spyware or adware...please let me know.

It's John Inzer - do you think he would recommend spyware riddled software??
Of course not!

You're running XP on 512mb of ram, that is the obsolute minimum
that XP can function on, aside from the video editing issues, XP will
be struggling. Your next hardware upgrade should be to double the
ram. It's cheap, easy and the boost will be very discernable.
Go here, this is a long established and highly reputable site dealing
in memory. Use their online scanner:
http://www.crucial.com/?click=true

You video woes, there is obviously a conflict?:
You capture in .mov format and convert.
You import jpeg images but not clear if intention is as overlays?
On that weak specification XP computer and using the basic WMM
try producing your video in stages.
First produce WMV composed of the jpegs only.
Then produce WMV from the converted .mov files.
Once you have the desired number of seperate WMV clips
Import them into WMM and make one full length WMV.
Then on that clip add the music and then produce the final clip.

Hi Panzy,

Sorry if I offended anyone about asking about the spyware/adware. I do not
know John Inzer so this is why I asked if he knew if it contained those. As
for the suggestions you offered, I am going to try to do it in steps to see
if that helps. I will also be adding another 512mb in memory shortly. I only
have one issue with the RadTools...which is that it doesn't convert to .wmv.
I did find another program from Any Video Converter which I have not
installed yet but have downloaded. If you know if this converts to to .wmv,
and if it is free from spyware/adware, I would greatly appreciate a response.
Thank you both again for the help today.

Download this excellent free conversion tool:
http://www.koyotesoft.com/indexEn.html

It's free, no spyware and converts to all formats including WMV.
You can set bitrate, resolution, aspect etc
Tips:
Once downloaded and installed,
You will find the default settings have created both a desktop
shortcut and an entry in program folder entitled: "Free Video Converter"
Open
Click the "Add files" button
Select just one of your .mov files to start with (You can convert multiple
files once you have the hang of it)
Then set the parameters under "Output Format" - WMV/bitrate/aspect etc
Then click the "Output Path" tab and select where to save the new clip.
Deselect/Remove tick from "Save in the files directory" (Default setting
should be Unticked so leave it as such)
Then click "Convert Video" button.

Then

Hi Panzy,

Ok, tried the link you provided but it doesn't specify anything but music
file conversions, didn't see any file types associated with movies on the
list. Can you verify for me?

Also, tried saving one 32mb .mwv file at a time. Still wouldn't save...same
problem with not enough space, lost file, etc. error. Then I tried splitting
the .mwv file into first...two 16mb files, then I tried splitting those into
two 8mb files...and it STILL wouldn't save them. So, considering it's
splitting a 32mb file into 4 8mb files and it still won't save them, I dunno
what the problem can be. If I have 30gb of space on my computer, that should
leave plenty of memory to save this small of a file.

My apoligies, I should have specified the links to left on the site
Click on link: "free video converter 2.0"
But if that is for some reason too tricky for you, here are alternative
download sites:

What exactly is a .mwv file? Do you mean .mov or .wmv?
I now suspect you are trying to import incompatible file formats into WMM.
,mov is not compatible with Win Movie Maker.
Download, install and use the Free Video Converter - It is not that tricky
to
navigate the links in the original link I supplied, or get it from the other
links I've now supplied.
Import into FreeVideo Converter one of your .mov files.
(Just one small clip for now so as you can get used to the software
and experiment with producing a clip that is *compatible* with WMM)
Use The Koyote software Free Video Converter to produce an AVI file
Select AVI in the left column, leave the default settings which will show
for an AVI the codec will be "MS-Mpeg4-V2"
That will produce a clip that is definately compatible with Win Movie Maker.
Then import that into WMM and produce a WMV clip.
Once you have produced an AVI with the free software, then from that AVI
used WMM to produce a WMV.
It will work.
Now you will know how to do it and what file types are compatible.
Now Open FreeVideo Converter, import all your .mov files, ensure you
select to produce AVI's with the MS-Mpeg4-V2 codec.
You can experiment with bitrate, size, and aspect etc.
Once you have converted your .mov files to AVI, import those into WMM
Then produce an WMV from those AVI's plus your jpeg image WMV
from the finished WMV, now produce a final WMV with the music added.

Sorry I transposed the letters...it's been a long day...they are .wmv
(windows media video) files and they import perfectly and play in Movie
Maker, for the most part, perfectly, except that some, as I said earlier,
pause for no reason. The software you mention will help with converting the
..mov files into .wmv or .avi (preferrably .wmv because they are compressed
and much smaller) and will save me much time from converting them at
media-convert.com, however, I still have the problem of Movie Maker's error
message when trying to save the edited .wmv files. As mentioned in the
previous post, even splitting them doesn't help. The error continually says
not enough space in the directory I'm trying to save in (which is my desktop
or videos folder and my drive has 30gb free space on it)...as well as the
files are not found (except that they are not lost...no red X's) and play on
the timeline just fine.

OK, post the exact wording of the error message.

as well as the
files are not found (except that they are not lost...no red X's) and play
on
the timeline just fine.

Open WMM
Click Tools/Options
The Options dialog appears, click the "Compatibility" tab.
Try process of elimination, but first look down the list for any
that have been deselected/Unticked, If found then place ticks
then close dialog and try.
But If none deselected, then click the "Restore All Defaults" button.
Then close dialog, reopen WMM and try.
If that dosen't work, reopen dialog and go thru process of elimination
disabling each and re-trying.

I just thought, it maybe the location for temporary storage that is causing
the error message?
Open WMM
Click Tools/Options/General Tab
Click "Restore All Defaults" button
Close dialog, close and reopen WMM and now try.
