I have users who are trying to save powerpoint
presentations to a network drive. The NTFS permissions
that the user has to that folder on the server are Read &
Execute, List Folder Contents, Read, and Write. When the
users go to save a new powerpoint presentation to the
network drive they get an error message stating that a
file already exist with that name. It then asks do you
want to overwrite it. You click Yes and it says that it
can't save the file because it's read-only.
To start with, there is no file on the network drive
named the same. When you attempt to save a file, it
creates a file on the drive, but won't save any changes
to the file. You can open the file that Powerpoint
created and there is nothing in the file.
When we grant users Modify permissions on the folder, the
problem goes away. We don't want to give users the
ability to delete files off of this network drive. Is
there any way to get Powerpoint to be able to save to a
network drive without giving them the permissions to
delete a file.
