In an already existing Word Document, any changes that I made, I can't just "save" unless I "save as". (It doesn't allow me to overwrite the document either with the same name)
How can I get rid of that option

Is it possible that the document is actually a template? If so, you can save
only as a template or as a document under another name. If that is not the
case, then you have probably been infected by a virus.

The other alternative to Suzannes reply is it may be a 'read only' document. It will show you if it is on the title bar (the bit that says Microsoft Word). To turn read only off browse to the file using windows explorer, right mouse click on it and choose properties. In the new window that pops up you should see a selection box next to read only and simply untick it.
