Problems Running Live Update in Defender

I was able to install defender, even though I got some error messages in the
process. I think it's spyware, but when I try to run "Live Update" in
Windows Defender, I get an error message: "The ordinal 314 could not be
located in the dynamic link library OLEAUT32.dll"
Any suggestions?
I am also having problems with Word, Dreamweaver and others.
Thanks!

Hello Beckyc,

Hey Tom,
It is my personal computer, so no firewall. I am running Win. 2000
Professional, I have tried to run antispyware (AdAware) but they won't work,
with similar alerts to those I receive with other programs, also I am running
Norton Antivirus 2004 with updates.
What I meant was that I cannot "Check for Updates" on Windows Defender.
I know this seems to be a common problem, but my browser freezes when I
try to open the webpage for Microsoft Updates, http://update.microsoft.com,
and the common support advice, http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=915105,
doesn't seem to do anything.
Thanks again,
Becky

I am running Dial-a-fix, but it seems to hang when it is "registering
mscoree.dll" Should it take over a half hour on one dll or is it not working
correctly?
Windows defender still won't update...
