Folk can anyone tell me if I can fix this repair:

I had problems with XP losing Internet Explorer (actually
I couldnt find it myself) then Outlook Express kept
crashing as I was starting it. So tried a reboot but XP
wouldnt load, simply hung a while then rebooted (is the
last virus??)

Now I tried twice to use the installation CD to get to
the install XP stage and then repair rather than install,
XP checks the disk then reports:

Setup cannot set the required Window XP configuration
information. This indicates an internal setup error.

Contact you system administrator.

I assume the setup and info is dead and only option is
format/ re-install (again.....)

Any other options?????

If only ... I had saved Michael's instructions a while
ago and was using them (not the recovery console) and was
on step 5 ... but that step did not finish scanning the
disk and before even rebooting it switched to the dialog
message below instead.
