I have recently had to reinstall windows. I have reinstalled all my
programs but am having problems reinstalling my printer. It is a
Brother DCP-150C. I get to the page where I have to connect the USB
cable and plug the printer in. The problem is that even after I have
done that Next still stays greyed out and I can go no further. It
dosen't matter how long I leave it after I have plugged the printer in
nothing changes. I did leave the printer connected and turned on when
I reinstalled windows. Would that create a problem? And if so does
anyone know how to rectify it? Any ideas on what else could cause
this?
Thanks

During the reinstall, did you re-install the motherboard chipset
drivers?

Does your USB ports show up in Device Manager?

Yes I reinstalled the motherboard drivers and the USB ports show up

I have checked out the links someone gave but haven't found anything
yet. I just successfully installed the printer on another computer, so
that looks like the printer and the software are ok. I am thinking that
maybe the problem really was because I forgot to unplug the printer from
the computer before I reinstalled windows. If that is so I suppose I
might have to start over again and reinstall windows again with printer
unplugged. If I can't come up with a better idea I will most likely do
that. Unfortunately I have already installed everything else. But
still if that is the worst thing that ever happens to me I won't
complain.
Thanks for your help. I will check here for any further ideas before I
take drastic action tomorrow.

I suspect that the problem is that since you left it connected an on
during the install, and the correct drivers were not available, you have
a "botched" install. Visit the brother "tech support" and see if you can
find a "removal instruction". When I have had this issue with folks
botching up a HP all-in-one or the like, the only way out was to delete
all the "HP printer" entries in the registry, and then follow the
installation instructions to the letter.

Thanks to everyone for their help. I think Bob I you were right abou
it being a botched install. I looked around for removal instruction
but couldn't find anything and decided that by the time I mess aroun
with registry entries, with the possibility of messing things up al
together, I might just as well start over again and reinstall windows.
I have done that now and installed the printer with no problems at all.
Now I just have to put everything else back on and I'm done. Thank
again at least I now understand what was going on.

Thanks for posting back, glad you're back in working order, but sorry
you had to start from scratch.
