Problems partitioning with Ranish

I'm trying to shrink my Windows98 partiton but Ranish tells me the
minimum size is only 44 less than the current size (current: 40,017,852
minimum: 40,017,808). If I resize the partition the way I want the new
current size is 18,000,000 which is well below the minimum (and
displayed in red). Are the numbers recommendations or is this operation
not safe for my harddrive?

You harddrive will not be harmed. But your data is a different story.
I think this basically means that Ranosh does not know how
to shrink your partition without data loss. Maybe defragment first
or use a different tool, e.g. GNU parted?
