I am getting errors when trying to double click on a filename that is in
Windows Explorer or even an attachment in Outlook Express.
The correct application loads OK, but that application says there is
something wrong with the file, but if I then open that file using the File >
Open method, the file opens fine.
As an example, If I double click a .doc file in Explorer, The error message
in WORD is reported as
Word experienced an error trying to open the file.
Try these suggestions
..• Check the file permission for the document or the drive.
• Make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space.
• Open the file with Text Recovery converter.
This is documented on the Knowledgebase
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926909/en-us) , BUT the solutions assume
there is something wrong with the document, and there isn't. If I open the
file from File > Open in WORD it works fine.
Similarly, error messages occur in EXCEL when selecting from Explorer,
saying can't find the file, but the file named in the error message is not
the correct path at all, and therefore doesn't exist. Excel opens it fine
through File > Open.
Any ideas please?
