Where to start....

I had to put a new MB in my PC (I chose FIC AU13)
I also had to buy new ram (pny 512 DDR)
I have been running XP pro
I figured i would have to do a clean install (so i backed all data befor
begining)
(geforce 2 video card is only card installed)
The first attempt at a clean install said it could not copy files
(I have been suspicous of my old cdrom for a while)
I changed to a known good cdrom and began again
on a clean fdisked formatted WD 40gig hd
The errors began there...
after copying files it rebooted to a stop error 0x04
I read ms knowledge base article nothing but "check your ram"
reseatted ram (as it's brand new) and tried again
got completely through a new install including time settings etc
then it rebooted and got stuck in a reboot loop
tried again and back to another stop error 0x04 (again ram)
so I traded Ram with my kids (they have kingston which is recommended by
FIC)
and problems continue to plague me
then I got acpi.sys error, so I disabled that feature in the bios
still problems
and then went to config_initialization_failure
ugh so i tested all ram on my pc then on kids pc using troubleshooter, quick
tech, and microscope and all ram passes on both pc's
(i'm leaning against a ram problem)

Now I start the install and when I press F8 to agree it reboots

where do i go from here?

signed,
stuck in stop:0x000000 hell

Even though the motherboard is new , is might be defective. Since you have
swapped out the ram and you know that the hard drive is good , and you have
it set up right (?) ,then the process if elimination highlights the
motherboard. Of course a improperly set up bios could be to blame . Go
though ever page , item by item verifying each setting with the motherboard
manual. Good luck Jym

I have also run the testing utilities below on the new motherboard and
everything tests good, I imagine trying to exchange it would get some
interesting looks from a tech at that store when they test it and it passes
their tests too. ( i have found most pc shops use the testing tools i have
been using)

still trying (and chanting "I will get this figured out")

Even after all the testing, I decided to exchange my brand new motherboard
and chose an Asus KT600, everything went very very smoothly after that....
the MB I started with was a FIC AU13, either it's not compatable (which I
doubt) or it truly was bad even after passing the testing utilities

Good to hear the good news.... Jym

I had an identical problem (could not copy files) not long ago. It
trurned out to be a defective (new) Abit AT7 board.
