Apologies if this has been addressed previously (my friend Google says
not)....
I have tried to install Windows 2000 Server on a 1998 model Dell Inspiron
7000. The original hard drive has been replaced with an IBM Travelstar 20GB
model.
I have scrubbed this and the W2K install puts NTFS on the entire disk.
During the install, once the W2K installation wizard has started up, the
following dialogue appears:-
"Windows 2000 Professional Setup
Installing Devices
Setup is detecting and installing devices on your computer.
Please wait while setup detects and installs devices such as keyboard
and mouse. This will take several minutes. During this time your screen may
flicker for a few seconds."
The screen obligingly goes black (with a thin margin of green pixellation on
the left hand side) and stays like that. Permanently. Even the
"three-fingered salute" does not cause a reboot. I have tried again a few
times but the same result.
I have a few ideas what may be going on but don't wish to prejudice any
answers by mentioning them yet.
Any clues?
TIA
