i have a
abit AI7
3gb crucial xms ram
40gb hard drive
i install it from the dvd and it gets to the funky background, then freezes
and restarts in a loop.

I tried installing it as an upgrade to winxp and as a new install and it
will go through the full install and at the end when its about to get to the
log in screen it says that it didn't install correctly and reverts back to xp.

any ideas

Is you machine overclocked? Do you have your memory running at an
"optomized"/"overclocked" speed?

Probably errors on the DVD you installed from. Try burning another at
the lowest speed you can and burn it on the DVD drive you intend to
install it from to avoid minor inconsistancies between one DVD Drive
and another.

nothing is overclocked i even tried disabling some things

I'm having the same issues! My first attempt to install gave me an error code
800703EE, which means it thought I didn't have the authority to upgrade. On
my second attempt it did exactly as you described, Joe. What gives?

using the CD sent to me from Micorsoft.

Sorry about the multiple post. The site told me that my replies had failed. I
guess it was wrong.

It's the web-based newsreader you are using. Try using the newsreader in
Vista Mail. The Vista newsgroups are already set up for you. All you have
to do is subscribe to the ones you want.

No, I'm afraid. I haven't updated because of some serious problems I've had
in the past. I imagine I could try that, even though I hate to.

Then read the notes for the various revisions later than your current one to
satisfy yourself that you need the upgrade. If you don't see something that
looks promising, then don't do the upgrade. I have had BIOS flash disasters
too and they are scary.

You do not have to have the very latest revision but I suppose you might as
well. You are looking for things like support or changes for SATA if that
is your what hard drive controller is, and so on.
