Error Code 0x800710D9 is : STR_CATALOG_INSTALL_FAILED

By deleting or renaming the Catroot2 Folder which is corrupt then rebooting
your machine can help fix the problem.

Open a run command and type in:
cmd.exe click [OK] then on the prompt command type the following and Hit
[Enter ..] Key on your keyboard:

net stop cryptsvc
ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 catroot2old
net start cryptsvc
exit

Reboot your machine and try the installation of SP2.

Follow the advice from Nass first and if that doesn't help I had to install
SP2 from safe mode.
