Problems Installing RC1

Having downloaded, mounted and verified RC1, it will not accept my original
beta 2 passkey. Should it or must I await my email from MS?

You can install Ultimate-Edition without entering a Key .

This way vista will run 14 days unactivated. by that time you can get a new
one from the registering offer, believe me.

SBJ ( running 5600 now )

I don't quite understand. On one hand it would appear that there is no
reason why my beta 2 key should not be accepted snd that the email, when and
if it does arrive, will contain the same key.
If I install on the 'no-key'basis will I lose any apps. etc when I have to
reinstall a new copy later?
Is there any reason why my beta 2 key should not work, it worked OK on 5472
and 5536?
Sorry for being a pain in the butt: I'm just a bit bewildered.

Maybe you entered it wrong.
Check again.

No, you won't, just make sure you choose the appropriate platform if you are
upgrading from an edition of Windows XP.

XP Pro = Business, Enterprise or Ultimate
XP Home = Home Basic, Home Premium, Ultimate

I recognise my density in being unable to absorb all of the advice you are
so kindly passing on to me. Perhaps it would be more intelligible to me if I
framed a few questions:
1. Why would my well tried key be rejected in the installation process? (I
entered the key correctly)
2. Having installed RC1 in the no-key mode, what happens next?
3. Is there a risk that having spent a lot of time configuring RC1 it will
be taken from me after 14 days?
4. Will I have to uninstall the present unactivated vers. if and when I get
a key that works.
I would emphasise that I am fully legit and that my key was issued to me by
MS and worked successfully in beta 2, 5472 and 5536.
Thank you for trying to help one so slow on the uptake

They key you were given for beta2 is a key for Vista Ultimate and will not
work with any other version of Vista (such as any of the Home versions) you
selected to install.

And yes, if you have a legitimate Beta 2 key, it will work with RC1
Ultimate.

Thank you very much "hrdrdtd" for solving the mystery.
When I selected Ultimate and inserted the key after installation I got
instant activation. Thanks also to everyone who contributed.
