I bought a used scanner at a garage sales for $l0.00. At
the time i had an old Windows 95 computer that had been
upgraded to Windows 98 that i had hooked it up to. It
worked fine. The scanner had said Windows 95 on the box
but i assumed it said that because maybe it was old and at
the time it was made...Windows 95 was the most used
operating system. My sister had given me her computer
which has Windows 98 as the operating system. When i
hooked up my scanner to this computer I keep getting a
error message saying: Action Manager.....program was
unable to find scanner. When i press "auto search" in the
scanner utility...I get an error message saying...cannot
establish scanner connection. I know it's hooked up
properly to the computer so i'm wondering why am i getting
these messages. The current settings in the scanner
utility say : Current Setting....Port Address:
Undefine....Port Mode: Unknown.....Available Settings:
Port Address: 378th (checked in circle) Port Mode: SPP
(checked in circle). I thought i read somewhere that i
have to change the SPP to EPP in the Bios but not sure how
to do that. Any help would be appreciated. Thanx...Patty

P.S. Don't know if this is relevent but on my old
computer i was using a dial-up service to connect to the
internet. With the computer i have now....i have a DSL
connection to the internet. Thanx again.

Try locating a web site for the scanner manufacturer and D/L an
instruction manual and drivers.
Read and follow the instructions in the manual to install the scanner
and drivers.
If that doesn't get you up and running please post further questions to
the newsgroup dealing with the Windows 98 operating system.

Make sure that the parallel port is enabled in BIOS. SPP should be fine,
although ECP would be best.

Sorry....i thought i was in a Window98 newsgroup. I enjoy
reading these posts and i must have inadvertantly posted
this in the wrong newsgroup...lol...again...Sorry!!!
