Problems installing Half Life 2

Dear all,

Just tried installing HL2 on my machine on to my D:\ partition but getting an error about 3 minutes into the installation. Spec of my machine is:

Windows XP Pro
AMD Athlon XP2400 (2Ghz)
nVidia Geforce4 MX 440 with AGP 8x (64mb)
512Mb ram
Loads of disk space
ASUSTEK A7N8X-X (nForce2 400 chipset) Motherboard

Installation is going along fine until I get this message:

I have installed Far Cry and Freelancer on to my D:\ and they work fine.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Same error at the same place but on checking the CD there's quite a few scratches!
Got to return it and get a new one sent out.. I was looking forward to playing that!!

Alf - I found I wasn't installing Counter Strike, I didn't realise I had to, that's why it was failing. Once I selected to install this also, no problem.

I thought there was a diffrent reason why i had problems, what if i dont want to install it?
