Hey, my laptop's internal modem died recently and I've got this old external
modem that I want to install on my win xp laptop using a serial connection.
When I try to install it using the "Add Hardware" tool in the control panel,
I was doing ok until itthen asked me to select which port I wanted to use.
There was an option
enabled saying "select port to use" and the "use all ports" option was
disabled (greyed out). Below this was a box where I assume I needed to
select which port i wanted to use my modem on but there were no ports listed.
The only think it will allow me to do is either go back (changing the
previous settings failed to produce a different result) or cancel the entire
installation. I was wondering if there was something I could do to get
around this problem.
