Problems in projecting clips?

I have windows XP and power point 2003 in a brand new Dell laptop.

When I play power point slides with media clips the media clips take a few
seconds to start projecting so the first few seconds of the media clip are
missed.
The clips also fill the entire screen and so the text alongside them is also
obscured. To go back to the pwer point slides then I have to close media
player and then go back to the presentation. This does not make a
professional p-resentation.

Also - I'd avoid having anything too complex (in terms of wipes/animations)
straight after the video clip (either next click - or next slide)
