Problems importing records into application

Hi,

I set up a macro that imports a spreadsheet daily. It has worked for
months but has stopped working the last few days. A user sends me the same
report generating from Quickbooks saved as an Excel file. I starting getting
a vague error message saying that "An error occured and the file was not
imported". I thought that size was an issue. It has grown to about 700 KB
or a little less than 1 MB but I cut this down and am still getting the same
error even when I manually import it. The spreadsheet is saved in my
documents and the database is on the server so I tried moving the spreadsheet
to the server and manually importing it but got the same error.

I saved it as a text file and got the same error message. This time though
the error also said "The search key was not found in the record". I am able
to import other excel and text files into my database so I don't think there
is a problem with my database. Can someone help?

Thanks,

Hi Chuck,

You may want to carefully scan through your data in search of unusual
characters in your columns. I ran into this "sudden" situation with an
automated importing routine that always worked, importing from an Excel
spreadsheet into Access. Just like your situation, the data didn't originate
in Excel. It was migrated into Excel by an E-commerce type website. The
problem ended up not being the import from Excel to Access but the software
exporting corrupt characters into Excel.
