-Hey all. Having a problem downloading the newest XP updates. Get to
Microsoft's site and click to install the updates. Window appears saying
that they will be downloaded etc but then nothing happens. I'm assuming that
this is a problem with IE6 since
Outlook Express also is misbehaving. Checks for mail and then can't
download. I went to
registry and changed IE and OE values so that I could reinstall both. All
went well, then back to Microsoft's page and still no go and OE still won't
get mail. Googled for answer and tried a few nips and tucks but no joy.
Any solutions out there? I deeply appreciate any help sent my way!

If anybody's interested in this one I found the solution. Two independent
problems occurred at the same time. Oe's problem was that the message was
longer than the SMTP could handle. This was the error message, by the way:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: ********* Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3,
Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
Had to have the mail deleted at the server.

The separate issue of downloading XP updates was resolved by re-registering
the following files: msscript.ocx, dispex.dll, vbscript.dll, scrrun.dll.
Ie. Click Start>Run and type regsvr32 then each file name.

Mea culpa for not Googling enough before posting the problem in the first
place!
