Finally. Problems fixed. Have had this 9800 Pro 128MB for a week now,
and have had all kinds of problems (as you may have noticed from my many
posts asking questions.

First, couldn't get 3DMark03 to finish. Kept going back to Windows
Desktop. Star Trek Bridge Commander was getting error message and
shutting down. Other unusual problems.

Now, all fixed. Went in to registry, and removed about 20 keys
pertaining to previous GeForce4 Ti-4600, and removed all left-over
drivers the Nvidia uninstall program didn't remove.

Now, everything works great. And got best scores ever (for my PC) in
benchmarks. 3DMark2001SE = 17,733 , 3DMark03 = 5,843 and AquaMark =
46,027. Can't complain.

ST Bridge Commander plays beautifully and smooth as silk in high
quality. Other games look better, or play smoother.

Even noticed a little more perkiness in the 2D, on account of 9800's
faster clock speed and AGP-8X.

Thanks to everyone for help/advice. Happy camper here.

Could you please post the information on which registry keys to remove to
get the Nvidia virus off my machine as well? I have the same issue with
remnants of Nvidia left over from a Ti4600 installation. It is completly
wacko that a huge corporation with the resources of Nvidia shows such
contempt for its customers that it deliberately fails to uninstall its
product when the uninstaller is run.

If NVidia has come out with a working uninstaller that runs as a stand-alone
program to get rid of the various remnants that the defective uninstaller
leaves behind, please post the link to that.

Here are most of them. Some of these are repeated multiple times. Just
search on these 2 items: NV4_DISP and NV4_MINI and you'll find the
keys to delete. Just don't delete any keys that reference your current
driver. They are mixed in with some of the Nvidia keys. Hope this
helps. (BTW, this is from WinXP registry).

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\nv (DELETE ENTIRE KEY)
Calling: Windows\system32\Drivers\nv4_mini.sys

Thanks. Regarding the benchmarks, I don't use any oc'ing. Don't even
want to take the chance that something might overheat or get damaged. I
think some of the scores that were way higher than mine, were from
oc'ing, because the CPU test benchmarks were way higher, even though
they had the same P4/3GHz, chipset, RAM, etc., that I have.

Regarding removing those unwanted registry keys, be sure to set a SYSTEM
RESTORE point (if you have XP), before changing/deleting any registry
keys. I'm sure you're aware of that, but just thought I'd mention it.

Thanks.
