Hi Ric,
From Alan Edwards:
<quote>
If it is only .exe files, then read on and see if this is relevant: You may
have an invalid plugin.
Netscape-Style Plug-ins Do Not Work After Upgrading Internet Explorer
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=303401
Remove the plugin with Regedit.exe
Start-Run-Regedit.exe
Navigate down to this key and remove it, after exporting it as a
normal safety precaution.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Plugins\Extension\.exe
If that key exists, then you will see what plugin has been installed.
(QuickTime by the looks of it and if so, I believe they have a fix)
The key does not normally exist.

Another thing is to disable third-party download managers and their remnant
entries in the registry. See my page about "How to disable third-party
download managers?"

Just the last day or so, I cannot download anything with
IE, if I click a link to download off the net for example
nothing at all happens, sometimes I get a brief window
which will pop up and look like it's beginning, but then
window closes and nothing happens. Getting frustrated,
don't think I did anything different to screw it up.
