Problems copying photos to CD

I am having a problem writing photo files to a CD on a CD/DVD drive. This a
new problem arising about one week ago.

The volume of files does not exceed the space available on the CD.
I select the files and then take the 'copy all to CD' option. A small window
appears with option to 'copy here'. When selected nothing happens.

I also cannot copy files by using the Windows explorer route.

I have tried listed workarounds, but with no effect.

By-products of this error are that a) once this has been tried the drive is
shown as permanently in use, and also windows generates a mesage that says
the 'resource is in use. b) the system will not shut down correctly, stating
that Windows is still using a file, wait until it has finished. The only way
to then close the system down is to force shut-down by the power-off button.

Can anybody offer advice please

try clicking and dragging the selected photos to the CD/DVD drive (make the
windows of each smaller to allow viewing of both operations)

Fergie, thanks for the suggestion.
I have tried this already, and it does not solve the problem.

I am beginning to think that there may be some software conflict somewhere,
OR some temporary file space that is either full, or corrupted; but do not
know how to pursue such a problem.

Any other ideas ?

Just a note for future browsers. I have now resolved this problem, as a
result of some excellent help through this forum. Thanks to several people,
but mainly Yves.

The basic problem seems to be that installing other copying software seems
to create a conflict that the'new' programme assumes the primary position for
copying, and in my case, Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD. This hides all the usual
prompts within windows to simply copy photos to a CD. These fancy programes
seem to want to do fancy things, like create photo albums etc etc.

The solution is to un-install all this other c*** and use the basics.
