I have a cable modem, Windows 2000 Pro, IE6. After
installing SP4 because it was a "Critical Update", I
can't connect to any websites (prior to install, no
problems at all), except websites pertaining to Windows,
MS, MSN, Hotmail, and yahoo.com. Can also connect to
Ebay for some reason. Nothing else. And those sites I
can connect to, the connection is VERY slow, like 56K
dial-up speed, or slower. I can also connect to my ISP
email server. They say this is not an ISP problem, it's
a MS problem, and that my cable modem is working
perfectly.

When I attempt to connect to any other website, the small
hourglass icon appears in the lower left corner of the IE6
browser, says "website found, waiting for reply....",
but never gets past this point.

Thanks in advance if anyone knows what to do and can
advise me.

I cannot delete SP4.

I recently installed SP4 on a few machines in my office to test it.

FAILED miserably.

ALL NETWORK AND INTERNET functionality was slowed down to a CRAWL.
Many network-related tasks and applications simply hang.

I removed SP4 and everything is back to normal.

I have already seen a plethora of horrible reviews on the internet
regarding this service pack.

Could Microsoft be attempting to throttle all Win2k machines to
convince people to upgrade to WindowsXP (shit)?

In any event, I strongly recommend nobody install SP4. It destroys
your system.

We are experiencing the same problems connecting to the
internet after installing SP4 which we were told was
neccessary before installing the patch to protect against
the msblast worm. Now everything is SLOW SLOW SLOW!!!
Unfortunately we don't know if we can uninstall SP4
because we didn't save the prior settings because windows
recommended against it because it would use up huge
amounts of memory. Now we're screwed because we can't get
to MLS etc which is critical for work. SP4 SUCKS!! Any
suggestions on how to back it out???

Did you not choose to archive files so the SP may be uninstalled?

ALWAYS archive files.

Meanwhile, I don't really know what you can do besides wipe the OS and
reinstall.

However, before you do anything like that, keep looking around the net
for info on fixing this problem. Many people have encountered problems
with SP4, and I suppose there may be some solutions besides wiping the
OS.

I uninstalled it.

Great...so now what can be done? I cannot remove SP4, so
what can I do. I have what used to be a fast computer at
my house on a high speed cable modem, and all I can do
with it is email.....

Is there any solution??

Thank you to anyone who might have a workable solution.

I had the same problem. After several hours I tried uninstalling
TCPIP, then rebooted, then reinstalled. That did it ! Hope it helps.
