Sounds like the problem that I posted a couple of days ago with no reply so
far? Does this sound like the same thing that you're getting (my previous
post):
I am running a Dell Dimension 4300 with Win XP installed by Dell.
While trying to load some new digital camera software, I got an error
message that said the installer wasn't functioning. I tried to run a repair
installation which fixed the installer problem but I discovered that my
dialup internet connection had gone away. I tried to add it back but found
that the option to add a dialup connection on the new connection wizard was
grayed out.
The modem checks out on the modem wizards and I can dial out to a fax
machine with no problem. Running the virus scan shows no apparent virus.
Dell Service ran me through a repair reinstall again and it still did not
change the problem.
I next went to Internet Options in the Control Panel and Connections and
tried to add a dialup connection. I got Error 711 which is that the Remote
Access Service Manager could not start. I tried to start it manually but
got another error message #5 which I could find no information on.
My second call to Dell support resulted in trying to uninstall and reinstall
it in the Add programs section of the control panel. That also did not
work. His only solution at that point, was to format the hard drive and do
a clean reinstall. Everything else seems to be working fine and I find it
hard to believe that there isn't a setting someplace that needs to be
changed. I have my data backed up but I really hate to go through the
process of reloading everything if it's simpler than that.
Can anyone help me with this? I am not a regular visitor here and realize
that this problably has been discussed before but I can't find it. Thanks
in advance.

option and wont let me set up a dialup account.
