I recently upgraded a computer in our office from Windows ME to Windows
2000 Pro. Most of the networking works fine but one program I wrote no
longer works. The program uses a fixed IP address to find documents on
another Windows 2000 computer and display them. This program works fine
on over 40 other computers in the company, including over a WAN, and
worked on this computer before the upgrade.
The program looks for the document storage computer using an address
like '\\123.123.123.123\directory\subdirectory'. The computer in
question can navigate to that directory or I can map a network drive to
that location but if I try to CD to that address it states that it
doesn't exist. My program responds with an error stating that no
COMMAND could be found and it was terminating.
The network is a Workgroup with each computer having a fixed IP address
and using 2 subnets. I tried removing the adapter, built in to the
motherboard, and rebooting with no change. The only way I can get my
program to work is to use the mappped drive instead of the IP address.
I would like to fix this to prevent having multiple copies of the
program to support.
Thank you for any assistance.
