Problems after upgrade

I have just tried the upgrade for MSN 6.1 (was on 6.1 before so it is just a
minor upgrade I guess) and now I can't sign in! I get the 0x...301 error
message (can't remember the exact number). I cannot sign in with any
address, although I can sign in fine on the hotmail login page.

Have just done a system restore and everything is working fine again - is
this a buggy upgrade?

Greetings Pink,

No, the latest version of 6.1 actually *fixes* a number of rather annoying 6.1 bugs -- the
usual cause of what you're seeing is if you're running a third-party software firewall, which
isn't recognizing the newest version. If you are running a third-party software firewall,
you may need to manually add MSN Messenger 6.1 to the "Allowed Programs" (or however it is
described in the firewall you're using).

Jonathan,

Thanks for the swift reply (as usual!) I had messenger configured properly
using NIS 2003 and my Netgear Router - everything was working fine. However
when I try to run the latest version it stops working. The software
firewall doesn't ask me to set up new 'rules' as it would for a new program
and the hardware firewall doesn't seem to be doing much.

Am I supposed to delete all the rules I have made and try and start again or
am I better off just leaving it well alone? (The only problems I have with
messenger at the mo is random failures to connect for a voice or video chat)

TIA
Adrian
