problems after the new "fix"

I have been having problems after trying to install the
new updates.

Only b/c I think they may be all related, in no particular
order,

1) When I boot up or reboot, I get a message that new
hardware was found. I cancel but it comes up again at
which time I cancel it again and the computer boots
up "normally."

2) In IE, when I right click and chose "Open in New
Window" the new window starts to open but then freezes. I
am able to close it with the X in the top corner. This
problem affects when I click on a link and the link
automatically opens a new window (which doesn't open). It
was at this time that I tried running the program and got
problem #1.

3) When I try starting downloads from
windowsupdate.microsoft.com, the downloads don't start and
the little download window just sits there. When I close
the window, MS wants to send themselves the error report.

I think the problem started when I first tried downloading
the fixes but the download didn't actually start.

I have since uninstalled and reinstalled IE using a
program called IE Eradicator but that did not help either.

1. Have you installed any "new updates"?

2. Was your anti-virus application disabled and all other running processes
closed before going to Windows Update?

3. Have you looked in http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/
for your errors/problems?

4. What Windows version are you running?

1) I tried getting the security updates from the MS site.

2) left it on. always do without a problem.

3) THAT HELPED!! THANKS!!!
