I was in the process of formatting a DVD when there was a momentary power
loss. When I attempted to boot up again, I got to the Windows screeen but no
icons would come up. Eventually I did a control-alt-delete and switched
users, which successfully brought up the other user's icons. I could then
switch to my user account and the icons did come up, although many of them
had a generic appearance, rather than their normal appearance. Also, when I
click on My Computer, it took quite some time to show anything but the
"flashlight" search. When I attempt to shut down, I see the blue screen
saying that Windows is shutting down, but it never does and I have to
physically turn off the machine.
My operating system is XP SP3. From reading some other postings, I realize
there's some way to copy necessary information and post it for others to see
but I don't know how to do this. If other info is needed, please tell me how.
I really hope someone can help me with this problem--one I've never
experienced before. Obviously I'm a novice, so talk slowly and use simple
words please. Thanks very much in advnce.
