Hi
I have successfully installed Windows 2000 server on a brand new disk. However, after installation I am facing the following problems
1) While configuring to make the server a domain controller, I am getting an error message "The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted". Instead it is showing as workgroup.
2) The display and sound, which was working fine (in windows 2000 server environment) prior to this new installation is not working.

Any advise to get around these problems is highly appreciated.

As far as the first question, that is because dns is unable to resolve the
domain name. Not sure if you were trying to join this box to an existing
domain or trying to create a new one.
If trying to join existing domain, be sure that in ip properties that it is
pointed to a valid win2k dns server in that domain Only for dns. If you
have other addresses currently in ip properties remove them so only the one
is in there and run "ipconfig /flushdns" then "ipconfig /registerdns".
If new dc in a new domain, point the machine to itself for dns in ip
properties, and during the dcpromo process when it comes up and says that it
can't resolve the name and askes if you want to install dns, say yes, and it
should do it on its own.
