Hi all,

I ran windows update and chose also the recommended updates (OS :
WinXP Pro)

I downloaded, installed, restarted, and had following symptoms :

- the taskbar did not show my open windows
- problems with launching programs (e.g. system restore won't run)
- copy paste does not work
- opening excel gives the following error : cannot use object linking
and embedding

started also in save mode, but no luck there.

Do/Can I individually uninstall the updates ?

tx,
Dirk

Windows Update does not free you from thinking for yourself.
Recommended Updates are what they are: Recommended once you have made sure
the situation applies to you.
If you know when you have run the update for Recommended Updates, you might
want to use System Restore to go back to BEFORE that point.
If that is not possible then there could be another (less certain) way you
could try.
Go into Control Panel, Add remove programs and uninstall all the updates you
have applied.
Most of them are named Windows Hotfix. They may however be others, so go
through the list carefully.
Then there are also the automatic backups that have been created in the
WINDOWS folder in directories with names like: $NtUninstallKB821557$
They all have a sub-folder called: spuninst with a batch file called
spuninst.bat
Run those batch files.
Once this is done, go back to Windows Update and only install the Critical
ones.
