I'm having a problem installing 2GB of ram on a machine
running Windows 2000 pro (4 sticks @ 512MB). I get it to
run with 1.5GB but when I add the 4th stick, the OS won't
boot. I get the blue screen STOP error (cannot handle
KMODE). I know the all the RAM sticks work becuase I've
used each of them in combinations of 3 in all the DIMM
slots. Also, in the motherboard recognizes all the memory
when I put all 2GB in but windows can't boot. Anybody
know how to resolve this?

er, oops.... its not a server. w2kpro... i just saw that.

Ok, who makes the system board, and exactly what kind of memory are you
using?

it's an Abit IC7 motherboard, should be able to handle up
to 4GB. Anyway, I can get the bios to recognize that
there is 2GB but windows never boots with 2GB.

Hi Andy,

This really doesn't belong here.

Post your problem on alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.abit and those friendly
folks will tell you exactly what the problem is.

It supports up to 4GB with the right kind of memory... like Registered ECC
or something like that.

How much memory does your system show.

And the other poster is correct... you are better off posing in the abit
group.
